Hi Dr. Burns,
I am currently a sophomore doing my BA in Psychology and wish to continue all the way thru to get my Doctorate. I saw one of your podcasts on motivational therapy during my last class at Argosy University. After seeing it I have gotten very interested in what you’re teaching and feel that it could eventually be helpful to me when I start my practice.
I would love to learn more about what you’re teaching but right now I don’t have any money to buy any books or anything—maybe eventually I can.
Thanks so much for taking the time to read this and whatever you can pass my way would be very appreciated!
Sincerely, Robin

Please don’t you dare let just a few petty people stop you from all this really GREAT work your doing and all the help your providing old and new therapists that will inevitably help so many people that you by yourself without this blog and your seminars and books could help, some people just don’t like it when others seem to be doing better than they are and like you said something has to cost to provide all the necessary supplies and other such stuff you need to continue on with your work and I think it’s really cool that you’ve provided as much free stuff as you have so I think you have gone well above and beyond what you have had too. Besides I wanted to let you know the Gods or Goddesses (which ever it may be no one really knows for sure) that be have provided some funds for me from my school from my financial aid as a stipend and when I get it I’m going to check on the prices of your books and see which ones or how many I can buy but the first thing I have to buy with that money is buy new computer as I’m having some slight issues with this one and need a really reliable one for school as I’m all online, thanks for replying so quickly to my post, All My Best Wishes to You!
sincerely:
Robin C.S. Burnett
Thanks, Robin. Much appreciate the support! Truly!
David
Check Goodwill and Salvation Army stores. I lost my original copy of “Feeling Good” and was lucky enough to find a copy on my little island at Goodwill for 10¢!
Thanks, Chrissy. They say the best things in life are free, and 10 cents for a copy of Feeling Good is pretty close to free!
Used book stores are another source for many of my books, usually for one dollar
All the best,
David
I love his motivation and desire to complete college and someday be in a position to help others-Beautiful and inspirational!
What a nice thing to say! I’m not sure if Robin is a guy or a gal but either way, really neat!
David
Dr. Burns,
It is my opinion that you are a pioneer in techniques that overcome depression and a whole lot of unhealthy habits that ruin happiness. Don’t give up due to a few jealous or angry people. Do find out how other bloggers deal with such toxic people. I love your work. All the best!
Hi Karin, I really appreciate your support. I do try to listen to criticism, and usually I do a pretty good job, but I am human and sometimes I, too, get a bit exasperated or feel somewhat beaten down. But it is never a good idea to write people off or treat them disrespectfully. Often, my harshest critics are my best teachers. David
Dr Burns, I’ve read many books of the “self-help” genre and I don’t think anything comes close to feeling good. I own a copy of it and have recommended to just about everyone I know, family and friends. I recently found this website which is filled with podcasts and blog posts which I find helpful and informative.
I am surprised and dismayed at even the thought of you ceasing to post! If your goal is to further the education of the mental health community whereby either improving therapists or anyone in need of advice then how can you stop? Honestly the idea of “since you cant give everyone free treatment you shouldn’t speak about it at all sounds to me like All OR Nothing thinking! Please do everyone a favor and continue to post, don’t let irrational angry emails get you down. There will always be antagonists in every decision we make whether internal or external, just ignore them and continue to benefit the public.
With much appreciation,
Yehudah
Thanks, Yehudah, I appreciate the support, and as you can see, I’m still posting! All the best, david
